Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. She founded Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts analysing the way women are depicted in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a website dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in the world of pop culture, is operated by Sarkeesian. Removing gender stereotypes is the primary focus of her work. In addition, she seeks to bring attention to concerns like the issue of discrimination and harassment of women online. Sarkeesian who has an MS in Social and Political thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is also well-known as a sought-after public speaker. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She was interested in gender issues and feminism since a young age. As of 2009, as she was still enrolled at university, Sarkeesian launched the site Feminist Frequency. A woman who was ambitious planned to create a web-series that would examine the role of gender in games. Then, she found herself the target of a cyber-bullying campaign. However, this did not dissuade her. It only strengthened her journalistic skills as a feminist. She has won numerous awards for her numerous prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the author of Feminist Frequency an educational organization which studies the portrayals of women within pop culture and the narratives that surround them.
